Look good on paper (and other substrates)

Colyer London, 17/03/2016
On 16th March, we held an evening event for customers to learn about the specialist media they could put through their printers. The evening was in partnership with Xerox and Antalis and we learned that paper is just the beginning!

Antalis are the largest paper distributor in Europe.  They also stock a huge range of specialist products. Jim Whittington talked through the wide range of substrates that you can put through a standard Xerox machine.

We had our own Xerox machines printing examples of presentation folders that were personalised with guests’ names, ‘Funflip’ novelty perpetual folding cards, ‘NeverTear’ plasticised paper that you can wash in a dishwasher and ‘Docucard’ digital membership/loyalty cards. Who knew printers could do all this?!

The evening was Japanese themed (because we figured a nation that makes paper and wine from rice should be celebrated!) so as well as learning all about specialist media, we all learnt about sake too!

Oliver Hilton-Johnson from the British Sake Association took us on our Sake journey. The key learning points were:

  • It’s pronounced SAK-A
  • It’s not a spirit. It’s brewed, like a beer
  • Most sakeis 15-16% alcohol, and it was designed to be sipped and savoured like a wine
  • The Japanese actually have nine different temperatures at which sake can be enjoyed, starting at 0°C all the way up to 55°C+!
  • There are only four main ingredients: rice, koji, yeast & water
  • Sake is free from sulphites and other preservatives, so no more hangovers – we’ll say cheers to that!

If you are interested in finding out more, come to our Midsummer event on the 21st June where you can meet Oliver in person and perfect your rice wine chat!

What's the biggest hurdle in converting your PCs to Mac?

It can’t be security, as Mac is just as secure with full disc encryption, controls over admin privileges and even locking a boot-up to a specific server.
It can’t be set up as it is easier to install, manage and download data onto a new Mac.
It can’t be cost, as the cost of operation is very competitive, with Macs frequently coming out cheaper in the long run.
