What's the biggest hurdle in converting your PCs to Mac?

Colyer London, 11/01/2018
It can’t be security, as Mac is just as secure with full disc encryption, controls over admin privileges and even locking a boot-up to a specific server.
It can’t be set up as it is easier to install, manage and download data onto a new Mac.
It can’t be cost, as the cost of operation is very competitive, with Macs frequently coming out cheaper in the long run.

Your biggest barrier in migrating to Mac is legacy.

Chances are, your whole office fleet is set up to run on windows with only a few, lucky creatives working on Macs. But in a professional landscape that is becoming less sedentary, with more hot desking, more travel and fewer fixed hours, the working world is becoming more fluid – not to mention more employees prefer to work on their personal device – BYOD. There is an advantage all down the line in encouraging employees to work more fluidly – it's better for the environment, better for the home-life, better for production. But it is in the home where Apple has won the war. The proliferation of Apple devices – iPods, iPads, iPhones – has led to an increase in Macs bought in the aftermath, providing sharing and compatibility across all devices and the family.

There are, of course, pitfalls for an IT department. Providing access to the corporate VPN and infrastructure needs consideration but is not an insurmountable problem once the green flag has been given to look into it.

Once all is up and running, your IT manager can focus on the more critical and time-sensitive projects, safe in the knowledge that they will be called upon less frequently for the day to day running of the laptop. And, with most IT managers being Windows specialists, rather than for Mac support and infrastructure, the good news is that there are agencies out there willing to pick up the daily slack, both remotely and face to face, for a very moderate fee ;)

Give Colyer London a call – we offer external Mac support to make any transition easier. We’ll stick by you in the long run, at the end of a phone or in person.
